Hello all, I'm trying to identify the components of my Mantis fuel pump and filter cluster which lives just above the nearside drive shaft (I'll go into the problems later).
The story so far, as I see it....
A - fuel entry from tank
B - exit from fuel filter
C - entry to pump
D - exit from pump
E - entry to unidentified cannister
F - exit from unidentified cannister
G - exit to engine
So, first question - Am I right so far or have I made a glaring miss-identification ?
Secondly, what is the unidentified cannister? It appears to have original hose clips on it, ie not the usual replacement jubilee clips I'm used to seeing on hoses.
Thirdly, in an older post, Dave Chivers was talking about a small gauze filter which can be hooked out with a screwdriver and cleaned. Where does this live in relation to the letters on the photo.
The problem:- complete loss of drive followed almost instantly by resumption of drive and obviously much strain on the drivetrain accompanied by the sort of banging noises from the back end which you would expect from giving all of the components a sudden shock. This happens intermittently when cruising and nearly always when calling for severe acceleration, or rather after a couple of seconds of fierce acceleration.
Initially I thought it may be an electrical problem, but during a 50ish mile ride along the A roads from Milton Keynes to Heathrow via Watford it did not occur on the bumpiest roads which is where I thought a bad connection would show up at its worst. This got me to thinking more along the lines of fuel starvation and as I have not yet changed the fuel filter since I have had the car, I thought I would start with that.
Your words of wisdom would be appreciated on ths one, please.
