I saw at Prescott, a few cars with the "Original" Marcos wheels (With Logo cast in) where the outer rim, strengthening ribs, and centre hub had been
machined and polished. I liked them.
So this week I set a half shaft and attached wheel hub in the lathe and mounted the wheel on it for machining. The first 2 wheels were OK BUT the other 3 all had severe "Wobble" when rotating.
Investigation showed 2 problems as per attached sketch. 1wheel in particular had all wheel nuts tight, wobbled dramatically and probably would have gone un noticed on the car.
I am not saying its a serious problem but worth checking next time you have the wheels off, if the tapered bore of the wheel is "As Cast" ie unmachined then I would have a closer inspection.
I machine 3/32" off all the wheelnut tapers and machined the bores to suit the locating spigot diameter on the wheel hub.
