I just bought the cheapest and highest power possible that fitted in to the battery tray. Although RedTop are highly spoken of on this forum.

I found the car battery tended to die quickly, then I replaced the batteries in the alarm siren and the car battery is now OK. The batteries in the LaserLine
alarm are NiCad which will die within a few years and will be definately dead when 10+ years old, this means that they will be continually charging when the
car is stored - hence a flat battery after a few weeks.

MHS charged me £72.85 for a battery last Summer for the Mantis, its performing fine even in the -5 plus's we've been having lately.
My experience of the REDTOPS is they ar not good value for money...very over priced |

I fitted a Varta E24 570 138 057 about 3 years ago and is still working fine. it fits the battery tray like a glove literally.
Its rated at 70AH and 570A I couldn't find a listing for a Mustang at the time for a UK battery and I did try a few autospares companies. In the end went for a range rover 4.6 vogue unit as i reasoned simillar size engine plus lots of electrical goodies as standard, plus external dimensions and terminals all matched. Have a mate with a mantis who has fitted the same after suffering a couple of battery failures in a year. Although he has still had a couple of cases of flat battery it has still recharged ok which the other batteries didn't seem to do the just died. That aside the alarm battery problem is certainly worth looking at I replaced mine a while ago. If you remove the siren unit, carefully dismantle the unit you can take out the tagged NiCd batteries (seem to remeber reading recently that NiCd batteries are now or are going to be banned) I was fortunate enough to have some suitable units to solder together and replace the old batteries. You would certainly be able to get something from RS or if you don't have access maplins may have something suitable or of course buy from Laser, must admit I was impressed with the reasonable price and availability of the replacement plipper fobs when I bought them as the rubber had perished on mine.
