I will check that out with them and let you know.
I was thinking we could give tickets out at the RAF museum before the drive down there but we could also make them available to book online in advance

The car park was free to Marcos & Morgan cars last year but there was a nominal charge on the door for the cafe in the evening.

Spoke to the Ace Cafe today, confirmed 4 bands playing from 7pm till 11pm, still got a few minor details to sort out with them about pre-ordering tickets but
we should be able to have 50 free spaces in the car park for Marcos and Morgan club owners

Err Zeke... excuse my confusion but... tickets??? The ACE Cafe is free for car clubs and the Cafe make their money out of food and drink. Last time the ACE
goofed and double booked a band but all Marcos owners got in free until after 10:30 when the band came on, don't tell us they have screwed up AGAIN and
booked bands... AND from 7pm????
Also, with a band coming on stage at 7pm leaves only an hour to look at all the cars and get food which seems a real shame; is it possible to get them to postpone the first band until after 8pm so it does not detract from the cars, alternatively can we arrive an hour or two earlier?? Otherwise some of us might not be there very long as eating whilst being deafened by a band is no fun! Also, what is planned for the afternoon meet up, as it might now be the more important part of the day? Please do let us know what is happening as it affects whether we are likely to stay for the evening. |

Jack,
Happy New Year! Zeke has taken over the organising of the Ace Cafe from me as he wanted to add a bit of music to the evening, and it needs one person to co-ordinate the whole evening. This is still booked as a Marcos and Morgan car event and not a music night, so if people do not attend with their cars we will not get another evening their so the cars are the priority. None of the car events have music as the "cars are the stars" and people want to sit down and talk, and eat. If it rains there is no cover outside as we found last year! Zeke has advertised for bands (within the clubs) and some are friends so there should not be any "real" costs as the Ace Cafe is free for us. As it's a "Marcos and Morgan Car Club" event no one can make money on the event, except the Ace Cafe, (unless they are charging us to go in.) I did mention about having music from 8 to 10 so there is time to eat and talk before the music starts. Im sure Zeke will get back to us and it will work out fine. |

Just to confirm that Gary is correct, the Ace Cafe hasn't booked the bands, the bands are Marcos and Morgan club member related and although they are
working bands, there are no plans to make a profit, but maybe we ought to think of covering their costs of getting there.
I have spoken to the Ace Cafe who have said we could have our own bands and run it till 11pm without a late licence (or the associated costs). I have to write to them soon to confirm what we want to do on the night so it would be good to know what people would like to happen. As I recall most club members (including myself) had left by about 11pm last year. Part of the reason I thought it might be worth starting at 7pm was that so that those with the furthest to travel home would have a chance to see the bands and still leave at a reasonable time. If the consensus view is you don't want bands to start till 8pm then we can do that, and they won't be deafening, my ears are quite sensitive too. I'm happy to arrange parking space at the RAF Museum before the run down to the Ace Cafe meeting and the event at the Ace - but I gather (from the Morgan site) that club members may be meeting in several different locations during the day - so that will need a bit of dialogue to work our who is meeting where. I will check with the Ace Cafe if we can meet up earlier than 6pm - how much earlier would you prefer? - 4pm?

Zeke,
Thanks for posting. Last year at the Ace we had to leave by 11pm or pay to stay on as they had a band on later in the evening. They made a mess of it as they should not have had a car meet and music on the same evening and asked us to do an afternoon meet instead, but I said we were meeting at an National Trust building first which is why it went ahead. Get an idea of "expenses" and if the Ace need a doorman etc which I presume will be at our cost. Gary |

The organisers at the Ace seem quite happy to please us, the only rule they have given me so far is no nudity on stage......................... I reckon I can
get all of the band equipment we would need there for free (as long as my mate with the van gets to play a few songs) and I think I could persuade the London
contingent to play for free - which just leaves travel expenses for those coming from outside of the M25. I suppose we could pay for that by charging a fiver
on the door for non club members and give two free tickets to everyone who brings a Marcos or a Morgan And ....we could always put Jack in a hat on the door -
I'm sure he would love that.................................!

Hmmm... not sure what you mean by that....?!?!
TBH you can arrange what you like - that is your prerogative for organising it - and it looks like you are off to a great start but I raised the question as the posts only mentioned the music and not the whole event. You do have a bit of a tough act to follow as last years meet was really great... so no pressure!! From last year it appears that the recipe for success includes: a great afternoon venue with all the cars parked together for a good photo opportunity (personally interested most in the Marcos and not too worried if the Morgans are elsewhere), something to do and time to meet other owners, an easy convoy to the Ace (following someone who knows the way), time for the cars to see and be seen at the Ace with more photos, time to eat and talk, then the evening entertainment. People can then choose when they join the fun. Considering the Marcos Club are arranging the meet it would be great to get a row of Marcos outside the cafe windows this time. Looks like you have the last bit very well sorted and have a great evening lined up, just don't forget the rest is equally important. The RAF Museum looks great as long as you can get a prominent separate parking area where we can take pictures, you can then boss everyone into leaving on time together and lead the charge to the cafe to get the best parking space! Not worried what time the band comes on just allow enough time for the the gawp and gulp - suggest no less than hour and a half, time really flies at the Ace. Soooo... they didn't mention nudity in the carpark.... therein lies is your challenge! The last time I saw a model on a Marcos, the model also had four wheels! |

Thanks Jack, I will crib liberally from your description when I write to the Ace this week.
I was keen to get the evening entertainment idea "passed the comittee" first as we've never done this in a club event before - but I can promise you the music and the sound system will be up to scratch. The car park is ours for the day and I'm sure we could arrange the parking layout for pics in front of the cafe better than last year. I will plan for 50 spaces for Marcos + Morgan cars and 100 free owner + passenger tickets for the cafe. I will set up a web facility for pre booking nearer the time - mainly to get an idea of the numbers and types of cars that are planning to attend -and will post up a number for non internet users. I will also start work on beefing up the pre meet arrangements soon. |

I've been trying to find out the exact time kick off is planned for the FA Cup Final. If it is 3pm as in previous years, then we really need to be well on the way to the Ace before the final whistle - which I presume will be 4.45pm So if we say we will plan leave the RAF at 4.30pm that should get us down to the Ace before the Wembley traffic starts again. So that should give us 2 hours at the Ace for the Car meet and greet before the bands start at 7pm through to 11pm. Are we all okay with that?

I think it should be safe to arrive at Hendon from about half an hour after kick off - so 3.30pm onwards then you should miss the football traffic.
I've had a look at the RAF museum site and it looks like there is quite a lot to see there - if you haven't already been there before. |

You could spend all day at Hendon with ease.......
I wonder if your average football supporter knows what a Marcos is......I suppose it depends on who's going to be in the final this year. With all those cameras around and its usually live on TV with all the build up from midday, could zeke arrange for us to be involved for a few passing shots??? |

RAF Booking form | #37 | ||
|
I've received the booking form from the RAF museum in Hendon (see below) who say there should be no problems accommodating us on the day, but they would like to know how many cars and people are likely to attend and how many will be touring the museum and what time they will be arriving on the day ? Can I have a response to these two questions for starters (and/or fill out the form as well and post it to me as a PM or up here if your feeling generous) 1) Are we confident enough to order at least one tour guide (at £12 at time) at 3pm? and 2) would any of us like to get there earlier to grab some food? Otherwise it appears the entrance is free. Arrival Date
