Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. 
   Update---l've had the wheels off ,checked -ETs(offsets) etc --16 front and 37 back confirmed-- 4 stud x 108  hub fit ,and used the calculator on one of the threads to look at variations.
   Contacted several online wheel/tyre sites with my requests, ---------------- 16" wheel/tyre spec needed -ie 16x205x 45  and 16x225x45 ,-----17" the same or similar width  tyres,but 40 profile (using the calculator 45 0n 16" and 40 on 17" hardly affects the speedo (1% sort of figure). The main problem was the 17 ET (closest standard -15), Most deals were for 4 with an ETc 35
  But have l had problems with choice -very limited, and l  am aiming to maintain the same "beefiness" and looks of  the original 5 spoke. Not after 25 cycle spoke looking wheels in chrome and satin black ! No bling required . In fact after recently "smoking" the rear lights ,and fitting smoked clear front flashers and side repeaters my Marcos is trully black.!---pretty sombre looking --certainly not "flash"!!!!
   So there you have it an interesting exercise,
   Facts-------- difficult to find a range of choice in16" wheels and tyres -a thing of the past according to some of the people l contacted .Though ,one company did manage to fit my size criteria,but with one design l didn.t like ,and that was £650!--a lot of cash for an 1" change
    If  l was going to take the plunge it would be definitely 17"--you can see the difference over the fitted 15".
    For the time being l may just paint in a 2" band on each  tyre in the anthracite l've already sprayed on th current wheels --might look alright from a distance??
    

Woody -sounds like you sorted things out well re the wheels.
 l'm interested in the "4mm" milling -what would have been the consequences of not milling -what was touching/fouling?
Also "50 " profile any------ "bottoming "problems on potholes etc.?

Thanks Woody -you read my mind -next question was going to be cost  involved. Which company sorted you out -l've been checking out the net and quite a few sites have the  brand name wheels (though don't always specify 16")
  l might try the front wheels un milled- maybe relieve  the wheel arch lip and add/blend in a thin "spat" if necessary (something to play with!)

 . l'll get in touch with them tomorrow----still considering 17" -- will see what they can do. Does the "extra inch" (16" over15") make a lot of difference in the visual effect in the filling of  the wheel arches? My Valbrems and tyres are in very good condition---------------decisions,decisions.
