There was 5462 with big x's through it and replaced with the correct 5469 alongside.
Any ideas or was it just a bad day in the works back in 1969?

Grit blasting the chassis today and discovered not 1 BUT 2 chassis numbers.
There was 5462 with big x's through it and replaced with the correct 5469 alongside. Any ideas or was it just a bad day in the works back in 1969? |

At least thieves will grind them off and re-stamp.

Probably quite normal with Marcos, my chassis plate has 2M over stamped with 3M.
My car also has the chassis number stamped on the gearbox crossmember. |

'Probably' - read 'almost definitely'. When I collected my Mantara from the factory I caused mild embarrassment by pointing out that the registration plates on the front and back had different numbers on them! |

I found them on the top surface of the top chassis rail, passenger side, engine compartment, just about in line with the distributor. |
