I have yet to see the TS /TSO in the flesh - perhaps!
Next time I see a Mantis I'll get my measuring tape out.
The car would fit but getting in /out could be difficult.

I just happen to have a TSO 500 Spyder and a TSO GTC Coupe in my showroom at the moment - they are both about 5' 7" wide and will probably fit into
your garage - please feel free to call me on 01225 864816 to discuss various options and maybe to come and see a whole lot of various model Marcos cars all
under one roof.

What makes the Mantis so wide? Is it the parts bin used for the chassis components? or road holding considerations?

It is a "wide-body" car, like the LM's it was designed and built for the race track and then "tamed" for the road; I guess the narrower
chassis was not competitive enough. Anyone around at that time want to comment?

Really? Did they just stick the wheels further out then?

Hi,
As I understand, but i may be wrong ? the chassis were all basically the same size with some small extra pieces welded on down each side to support the wider body panels and I suppose the wider track is all down to where/how the suspension arms are located on the chassis and what rear end IRS/axle is being used, Martyn.... |

Tight Fit | #29 | ||
Just to show that you can fit a Mantis in a single garage (min. 212cm wide at the doors). The technique is to line the car up with the garage door, hit max revs, select reverse, drop the clutch & hit the brakes in exactly 3.25 seconds - don't forget to open the garage door first! Alternatively just go very slowly and check the gap frequently - having help from another person and one of those beep beep reversing things also helps. |

Just to back up TC's comments my Mantis fits easily (ish) in my garage which has a 7ft wide door. I prefer to go in forwards which does not give me much space to get out, but that really is not an issue. |

you lot certainly do have very posh garages. I'm far too ashamed to post a picture of mine now!

Unregistered user?, Why not come in out of the cold? It's painless, free and opens other options up to you. Spare less than a minute of your time and register here, go on, you know it makes sense! |

To join the Post-your-car-in-your-garage thread, here is my not so posh contribution...
It looks snug but is really quick and easy once you get the hang of it. My top tips are... 1) put a mirror at the end of the garage so you can see one front wheel as you start to drive in - to check the gap to the door frame is OK. 2) pause when the wing mirrors reach the door frame to check you are straight. 3) put a plank on the floor so when the wheels reach it you are far enough in - a couple of slats laid to the end wall are enough to stop it moving.
p.s. Old picture - tail pipes are in the right place now!

I was only thinking myself last week that once the car is finished it would be cool to have a decent garage to sit her in, loads of ideas here, some good some

Bigdiesel, remember the Mantis doors are the same width apart as your cars, so if you can get out of yours a Mantis should be the same. Its only the front and
back that have got fatter!
It will be tight, but you know it will be worth it. PS where about in the country do you live??? |

Thanks for that Gary, I was focusing on the widest part of the car and completely forgot that the "cabin" is the same size as the other cars, hence
doors will have a bit more swing to open further. Can't believe I overlook that.
Thanks BD |

"Jack's looks like a really tight fit as there does not look like there's much space on each side after passing through the doors, do you get out,
by climbing out the rear end as its a spider?"
Only the door is narrow, there is a lot more space on the drivers side to get out, the next garage starts at the bricks. That is why I go in forwards and TC goes in backwards. Think a road trip to bigdiesels garage is needed in the new year!!! |
