I know Klaus Tweddell was given an entree a few weeks back but we did not know which car he would be taking.
Do you know who will be driving, and have you got a complete entry list. Gary |

Hi raceply, the picture shows the Tavenor. One of the most fascinating Marcos cars ever built. Only one was car was build and the car was race very successful
on the European continent, Spa Nürburgring and so on. The Tavenor is originally a Marcos Fastback ex works and has in the meantime a German owner. Do you have
more pictures of this car? The car is completly overhauled, don´t know if the engine is finished, but a great looking car with a fascinating design.

hello,
sorry for opening this thread incognito as raceply. I wrote in this forum in a hurry , because i hoped to meet some Marcos-friends at Goodwood. Yes, i was very lucky to have been invited to Goodwood, although all came to me very surprisingly , as i did not ask for an entry to this spectacular event. The reason for the letter from Goodwood was, that Maarten Krikken remembered the organizers some years ago, that Fastback Marcos´ were competed at Goodwood till 1966, when the track was closed for racing. The invitation came exactly one week after my return from the 50th anniversary at Prescott, where i was with 3PLY, so it should be a 2nd time within a month to cross the channel . And it was a hairy short time, not only to prepare the car , as it had stood for nearly three years, still the Dunlops from 1999 on its rims and the dust from Euregio meeting 2006 Nürburgring Nordschleife on the screen. As 3012 is prepared for long-distance racing, it was not really quite correct for high-speed sprint at Goodwood , especially the diff-ratio and the huge 80liter tank in the boot. It was also difficult, to renew my licence in such a short time , as i t had run out unfortunately. So my wife and me set-off for the Goodwood-adventure , with a car on the trailer with only fresh fluids, cleaned and polished a bit, and having done a test-drive of 15 miles around our villlage. Luckily the licence came a day before leaving. The worst was the desperate looking for accomodation, as everything was booked out since months. (Goodwood and Boat-Show in Southampton, no chance at all) With the help of a friend we found something in Arundel, but not for the Wednesday, so we slept in our towing-car at the trailer-park at Goodwood. As i have never been to Goodwood, still at home i did some laps on Youtube (in a Lotus Seven) , but during my first laps in practice i have learned, that this track has a very narrow line between beeing fast and having an excursion to the grass, especially with my stony tyres. So it was rather proud to find me in the midfield with the Fastback, all around good old Goodwood cracks on brand-new Dunlops. The race starting was a bit uncommon to me, as with the showing of the 5 sec plate , the flag fall nearly in the same moment, and i hadn´t jet the first gear in, when all the cars behind passed me and stormed away . Nevertheless i was a very fine race, had some fine dicing with some elva´s, until I went a bit to the grass-side , having an eye a bit too long for the rear-view mirror. Some Marcos owners came across, that was very nice, and it is nice to see some shots from Gary here, thank-you. conclusion: Goodwood was the best event , i have ever been to, perhaps not for racing, as it is a bit short, but the people, the cars around, inside and on the circuit, the details of all the enviroments, the thousand and one thing , you are coming across at this place and during this event, this made a real great impression to us. I even liked the dressing-game and despite all the limited time in front the the departure for Goodwood, we managed to find some suitable clothing ( i think, it was the first time after my marriage, i put on a tie). One funny thing, which speaks for itself: We were sitting in the diners-area , having some afternoon coffee, someone came to our table, asking, if he could share the table with us....yes, of course.....after some minutes, we are already in a good talk about the plane-engines, especially the oil-supply technics, as the Spitfire in front of us was prepared to do another demonstration (with loops and so on). So we talked about half an hour about this and that, when i was asked by him, which car i was driving at Goodwood. I explained, a little GT, it´s an elder Marcos. Oh fine, he said, then you are driving something from my brother Frank.................................. after it made... click... in my head, i said: yes, but also from you, Mike. hallo christian, würd dich gern mal anrufen, hab ne menge zu erzählen klaus

Raceply, Good to see you here on the forum. I said hello when you were in the car on Friday but did not find you again over the weekend, and Jem Marsh said to say hello! I should see Christian at Spa next weekend and will give him a CD of the images from Goodwood as I know he is in contact with you. Good to see you briefly, but could you let us know a little more of the history of the car. Gary

Fantastic Klaus,
So good to hear your tale, and I hope you had a great time. This year is the first year I have missed Goodwood, in many (although only a spectator), a mess up with communications so I was not there, but a great privilege for you to be invited and in the anniversary year for the Marcos it is so good you could represent us at what is a very prestigious meeting. And great photos from Gary, too - the car looks really good, and it shows just how advanced the Marcos design was. Unless I am mistaken the race class you were in returns every 2 years - but I may be wrong - however I hope you will be back. Steve
There's a lot of talk these days about green transport. Well, I am ahead of the game, I already have green transport ... British racing green.

there are some reports on ITV during these days.
does anyone has seen it , would like to have a look at it, but i cannot get ITV over here in germany. For the best interviews and action over the weekend, don't forget to watch on ITV4 Tuesday, 29th September, at 20:00hrs. If you think you might be out, then Sky+ it or record to view at your leisure! For those unable to do either, the programme will be shown again on the following dates: ITV1 - Thursday 1October at 01:30hrs (repeat) ITV4 - Saturday 3 October at 15:00hrs (repeat) klaus |

Hi, great to hear Klaus' Goodwood participation has caused so much interest! Thanks Gary for the pictures as I was browsing the net while raceply was out at Goodwood to see how he was doing! Hi Mad Carpenter, great to see you are on the Forum. We met a couple of years back and had a great afternoon talking about 850CAM which then became the Tavanor! I am a (almost) daily reader of the messages, although I am not posting a lot of messages so far! I look forward to read more about the Gullwings and Fastbacks on the Forum! |
