Hi All,
Well, I've been a huge fan of Marcos ever since I saw the first one drive past me about 10 years ago when I moved to Trowbridge (near Redline and
Heritage, best place in the country to catch a glimpse). Since then I've come very close to buying a Martina then a Mantula, but
fate has always conspired against me.
Now I've getting to the age when my mid-life-crisis is really going to kick in I've decided that I should forget compromise and save for the real goal,
a Mantis (if one ever appears on the market again). This on top of popping along to the 50th swoonfest, was everything I needed to push me over the edge.
However I did come very close to going for a @$# Tuscan at one point and everything looked good until I was taken on a test drive, at which point my illusions
were shattered and it really didn't "feel" right.
So before I build myself up for a massive let down I was wondering if any of you lovely owners in the Wiltshire areas would be willing to give a me a ride
about in a Mantis to see if it really does live up to the dream? The passenger seat would do fine

Well I've just been out in Spyder's Mantis GT, and what can I say? Well the word's I used to my other half when I got back aren't repeatable
even on the web, but the sentence ended with "....Oh my God I have to have one!".
Firstly I need to thank Spyder for a great day and thanks for having the generosity to offer in the first place. Not only was he kind enough to take me out but also spend some time talking about the life of a Mantis GT owner. The car was incredible, immaculately presented, with spotless and beautiful paintwork, and even the leather was pristine. Having nosed at all the Mantis's at the 50th, I can say his is right up there with the best of them. If I had the cash I've have it sitting in my drive right now. The drive was amazing, I just couldn't get over the blistering acceleration, and just how easy it is to overtake other car. Then there was the sound, a meaningful grumble then blip the throttle and it sounded like God had ripped a hole in the universe! Truly awe inspiring! I've been in a fair few exotic cars in my time, but this simple blew them away. It made the Tuscan I went it feel like a Skoda (not even the new VW ones, I'm talking old skool door falling off era). And talking to Spyder about ownership was very useful as he's been through a few Marcos's in his time. So it was nice to hear about all the oddities and charming elements of ownership instead of the war stories and "what to watch for" from TreVeR ownership. Yes, today was mission accomplished, my dreams of a Marcos are as alive as ever, if not more so. These cars don't just look the part, they ARE the part. Now all I need is the cash, so if anyone is looking for a very talented IT type boffin that they want to hire for wheelbarrows full of cash, I'm your man

Hehe, yes, I know what you mean. I drive an (don't laugh) MX5 Mk I for my fun car at the moment, and just occasionally someone will ask about it. Then I
tell them all about the handling, the feel of the road, the precision of the gears, clutch, brake and accelerator. The feel of the wind in your hair and gruff
sound of the exhaust... It just makes you remember why you love it.
And for those that haven't driven a 5, they are superb (even better with a bit of tinkering) to drive. They make great "starter" sports cars. But it's time for me to move on to the proper thing, take the training wheels off
