I am thinking of putting a wide band lambda sensor to my 2L Turbo [Emerald ECU]. Has anybody changed their lambda sensor to a wide band and if so what
difference did it make.

Does your ECU support it - as I thought the wideband's worked on a different electrical principle - like current instead of volts or summat ?!
There's a lot of talk these days about green transport. Well, I am ahead of the game, I already have green transport ... British racing green.

I am told by Dave Walker that you can wire a wide band lambda controller/sensor directly to the ECU and set the ECU to run in adaptive mode.
Wideband Lambda sensor: - notes on wiring the TechEdge 2J1 to the Emerald
o +ve ---- switched live from battery o -ve ---- good chassis ground (or back to battery) o
o wblin+ ---- goes to one of the Aux inputs, e.g. AuxIn35 (pin35) wblin- ---- goes to the sensor earth connection on the Emerald (pin30) ยท From that info you would connect the green wire (WBlin-) to ECU pin 18 (O2 sensor ground) and the blue wire (WBlin+) to the analogue input you are going to use as the AFR input, e.g. AuxIn10, AuxIn34, AuxIn35 or AuxIn36. Power and ground to the controller can be joined with the ECU's power & ground if necessary (power = ECU pin 28, ground = ECU pin 29). If you use AuxIn10 or AuxIn35 make sure the internal pull-up resistor option is not ticked (inputs page of ECU configuration screen). It looks like it can be done!

Good enough for me - you wouldn't be able to do that on the normal Joseph Lucas (Prince of Darkness) system on a V8. Having a wide band is great to try and
run it a tad on the lean side to get economy, it is less of a binary switch. I have a Holley system on a non-Marcos V8 and they need it returned to base to
adapt it if I want wideband - but then as it is fully programmable then I could run multiple maps - e.g. a lean one for economy (and MOTs) and a max power map.
Like a lot of these systems you can choose whether to run it closed loop throughout, or to go open loop at the top end, or even the bottom end. At the top end
you know extra fuel is good for the engine - keeps it cool, at the bottom end they sometimes go open loop as the sensor may not be hot enough (though a lot are
heated these days).
So the next question is you will probably need to get yours re-mapped, maybe it can multiple maps. Anyway - you seem to have done your homework - I am probably telling my granny how to suck eggs! Steve
