rear discs, should they do that? |

Evening from a Marcos virgin, just joined Forum having bought a Mantara and getting to know the breed (or trying to! why isn't this car shouted about, am a
convert from Lotus and very pleased with the decision so far) but when the rear wheel is bolted on there is no play in the offside disc, but take the wheel off
and the disc is loose on the wheel studs, there is no play in the bearing. It isn't like that on the other side and there is no play whether wheel on or
off. Is it a Sierra set up and has anyone else come across this? Hope you can point me in the right direction

Welcome aboard, and I reckon you are going about things the right way. I have a Sierra IRS on my late model Mantula, and I while I have had the wheels off
numerous times and have changed a rear caliper, I don't recall any sign of a loose disk - but then if I had seen one I would have been checking just as you
are.
I will leave it to the Mantara owners to comment, but if they don't come up with anything I can always have a look at mine and see how the disk bolting compares to the wheel studs. One of the great things about the Marcos is the ready availability of part at compeitive prices. The Sierra IRS is on a whole host of Caterham/Westfield cars (and a few Sierras) so lots of availability and chit-chat about how to sort it out for a sports car, same for many of the other parts. The price of parts should compare well with a Lotus !
There's a lot of talk these days about green transport. Well, I am ahead of the game, I already have green transport ... British racing green.

Its nothing to worry about as there is no facility for a grub screw to hold the disc to the hub. Ford used to fit a spring steel clip on one of the wheel studs
just to hold the discs in place when the wheel is removed. These are often not replaced when discs have been changed but once the wheel is on the disc is
secured to the hub, your secure disc is probably held in place by corrosion on the hub.
It`s not more power you need, it`s less weight and a few subtle mods and some not so subtle!

chassis to worry about then!

Thanks for the explanation, that's comforting, I had hoped that the wheel would do the trick, but hadn't come across it before and was a bit concerned.

Welcome to the forum! I just browsed your pictures and saw you are the owner of R240 HMW (which going by your name must be a GTS). I have got R239 HMW which is also a GTS 2.0 turbo Congratulations on a fine choice of Marcos!

Andy, Hi, thanks I recall R239 is the green one which was available recently? I did some looking around before I thought it looks great and I really ought to
try one and it was great to drive. now just doing some checking before I start to use it, plus scrape off the waxoyl and treat with something hopefully better
to try to put off the chassis change as long as possible, so not done much mileage yet, but it feels great and looking forward to it. Yes it is a GTS as
although I love the sound of the V8, I thought 2 litre might be greener!!?? and it seems about as quick and is chippable if you want more. Hopefully see you
around to compare notes cheers Ken
