Our LM has not been used much over the winter and when we got her out the garage in April we started experiencing starting problems and we think they are spark related. We therefore have some questions. It is an LM500 so the Rover V8 5 litre.
1. What should the gap be for the spark plugs?
2. Where can we get a replacement distributor cap & rotor arm (believe the distributor is a Bosch)?
3. Where can we get a replacement coil from?
We have Magnecor ignition leads which were put on in 2003. I have spoken to Phil at Magnecor (a very nice, helpful man) and he says he does not think there is a problem with the leads - says they should last a lifetime. Has asked us to check the resistance of the leads & hope to be able to do that this weekend to rule them out.
Suppose it might help if I explained the symptoms. She seems to start from cold OK but when she warms up the idle becomes erratic - bounces really high & then dips right down to the point that if you do not rev the engine immediately she just cuts out - when she has cut out there is no starting her again until she is stone cold.
