Blimey Q any more new parts and you could try contacting DVLA for a new registration.

Actually I am just trying to get an idea about any issues around changing the ECU e.g. I gather that using an ECU from a Challenge car may potentially impact the functionality of the Immobiliser & auto door locking. The car's with TopCats at the moment & Warren flagged a thread which suggests the ECU may be prone to glitches (apparently our ECU is a model EEC V) . I don't really remember anyone mentioning they'd had to change or replace their ECU on a Mantis (apart from choosing to upgrade to a mappable ECU) so thought I'd actually ask outright. Rory at MHS & Joe Cubitt (possibly) seem to be the only people with the diagnostic tool for the ECUs (Startester?).

I have replaced mine with an Emerald unit. Its working fine and it has the option to plug in my laptop to adjust it but I can get it communicate yet. This help
changing the way the engine runs say for an MOT with no CATS. If you want to look at it google emerald 3d.

To change the Ecu on the mantis seems straight forward with a pin out of the eec-v, it will not interfere with either of the immobilisers. To check your ecu,
you have to wire up a obd2 plug as stated in another thread and find a garage that services american cars (or check the uk mustang owners club for a garage
near to you). and they will have a tester that should read your Ecu.
I cannot help with the name of the tester that the garage used to read my Ecu. But it did not look like any startesters that I have seen on the net. It was more like a tablet pc with touch screen application and onboard mini printer for all the print outs. I do know that Goldriver is also running an emerald Ecu and there is also a Haynes manual written by the guru Dave Walker about the setting up and programming of the Emerald Ecu. All the Best |

So as Im a little Sleepy....... nothing new......am I reading this correctly!
That a USA car service agent who knows Mustang engines will be able to check the fault codes on my ECU? I was told that Marcos changed a connection on the ECU and it could NOT be checked except by Heritage?? It was also mentioned if I changed the ECU the imobaliser and alarm would not work??? So what was the cost of the Emerald ECU, fitting, and how was it programed? From your car on a rolling road or a standard program for that engine????? Thanks for that, Gary |

Marcos changed the Ecu (obd) connection like many other companies that used this engine/Ecu ie Morgan, AC and others as this seems to be standard practice (I
was informed), to keep the service in house.
I tried to scan the printout of the fault codes, but the print out is no bigger than a till receipt and it makes hard reading, but if anyone wants a copy, Pm me and i will forward the scan The Emerald Ecu can be fitted by yourself or you can get an auto electrician to do it. I was with Goldriver when he took his car to Dave Walkers running the Emerald on a basic engine map for his engine. To be set up on a rolling road. It was an experience and a terrific learning curve I was impressed more with the Emerald than the Omex ecu, as with the emerald system you can reprogram or access real time running , switch between 1 of 3 maps while driving, depending on style of driving or have a map lowing the rev limiter, or even for your Mot http://www.emeraldm3d.com/ |

Emerald seems to be favoured over Megasquirt, Omex etc then?
How complex is the mapping? I suppose there is a risk it could get pretty expensive if the mapper doesn't know what they're doing.
