My Mantis fits through a standard garage door (on a good day) which is 7ft wide. The car should be 6ft wide ish.....
Should you trade you wooden Chassis, well, that one Im not going to get involved with! |

I am clearly biassed to the LM's so my vote is do it.
My garage is too small for the car so I have to rent one. I put a mirror at the end of the garage so I can see I am lined up and get in no trouble, I have less than 2 inch clearance from the wing mirrors (Wheels 6 foot 1, mirrors 6 foot 5). However, my garage is a lot bigger on the inside than the door... if your garage is 7 feet wide inside then you will have more fun getting in and out of the car, could always hang a frame from the garage roof and climb in and out that way! Where are you based, must be able to borrow a car from someone to give it a try? |

I had a similar concern, & bottled it (or was it just a lack of confidence in my low-speed steering skills!
All I need is a car to put in it now...

I know someone who cut a corner off their house with an angle grinder so that they could get their marcos in the garage

Maybe we should have a topic on most extreme house modification for a Marcos!

Does using a JCB to dig a pit in the garage count?
Or choosing a garage first before looking at the attached house? |

I had an extra 15ft built onto the rear of my garage which is 13ft wide and now 38ft long with a set of sliding patios doors so at night when i am in the hot
tub i will be able to look at the LM!! so the LM600 and the Aston fit nicely, i have made the garage more like a show room than an oily messy place for these
2 beuties!! white walls with fitted kitchen units to one side and Marcos pictures adore the walls at the back end of the garage and Aston Martin pics the
front end. all carpeted, And a glass unit for the stereo system and tv and dvd also, and even wall mounted heaters on the walls that will be used in the winter
on timers!! oh and a mini gym at the rear also, something to hang the cleaning cloths to dry on!. When i soon get the Lm home i will place small LED spot
lights on the wall to come on a timer so that it will illuminate the LM at night.

Will it fit - Mantis | #11 | ||

Are the door rear view mirrors removable? or can the latest folding type be fitted?
Toying with the idea of fitting ramps on one side of garage so car goes in at an angle. Not sure about Boycey's LED lights do they take up much room :-) I will not be fitting carpets this time as got to much static build-up last time and kept getting a static belt each time I touched the door. |

I only have a single garage and up to recently had a MG Midget, 1 motorbike, 3 pushbikes, workbench, BBQ, all the usual other garage clutter and a Marcos
chassis resting on it's side and a Marcos body hanging above the MG from the roof all in a single garage,

The mirrors do fold (have to for pedestrian safety) but doing this too often can either break the turret inside or loosen the mounting to the door. Could try renting a bigger garage... or moving house! |

Spot on Jack - figure a previous history of being 'used' is what must have happened to my drivers door turret which gave up the ghost while on the move
(fortunately the electric loom stopped the mirror disappearing off altogether. Further inspection revealed that the outboard end of the turret relies on three
very flimsy metal pillars, and that the metal itself is pretty 'monkey'. Rory has spares (the donor is a
late 80s Citroen BX I think) but its a bit of a pain to take the door liner off and refit because of aforementioned electric loom. Summary conclusion - it
won't help much width-wise, so best not to be fiddled with.

Citroen CX. And the turret pillers have to be flimsy so that they break off - not uncommon accident for children to be hit in the head by wingmirrors -
although would have to be really small for the Marcos.
I found that the problem is caused by the top of the turret where there is three points for the different position of the mirror, the spring tab in the mirror case is steel and corodes so does not slip over the points properly - hence breaks the turret. If you remove the mirror from the door post (allan screw under the black cowl) and remove the plate holding the turret (torx needed) you can see the offending spring tab to clean and lubricate it - or move your mirror safely to the right place by manually easing the tab back. I spent a couple of years looking at the rear wheelarch before I figured this out! |

Makes sense. Don't remember any small children being around at the time we parted company fortunately...

Matis will it fit? | #19 | ||

Looks as though the Mantis will have to wait for a garage mod.
I take it the LM's are the same size? I guess I could park it in the garden and during the winter remove the bonnet, fit skinny wheels and then push it in to the garage. Mind you I will have to get a skip to dump the timber from my DIY projects and all the military memorabilia - no tank though. Will be visiting specialist race-shop for engine head repairs for my existing chariot, then seeing about getting woody rolling some time. May be even get my own head checked out :-( |

"I take it the LM's are the same size?" Fraid so, they are the original wide body car.
Have you considered the TS500, Mantaray, Mantara, TSO... etc. they are narrower and might fit better! |
