mantula 3.9 exhaust manifold???

Has anyone had any experience buying exhaust manifolds from anyone other than Rory.

Im pretty sure the £320 they quoted for a mild steel manifold (Just the drivers side one) is a bit excessive???

If anyone has a company they could suggest maybe nearer south east would also be handy???

Cheers guys.

Like I said, there are other pipe wranglers out there - but it is so tight in that engine bay you really want it fitted unless you already have the car apart.
Standard 3.9 V8 was 1.5inch primaries (and I bet it was the same for the 3.5), but on my 4.5 I am definitely going up to 1 5/8" next set - and of course
the size goes up right through the system. After a lot of thought I am avoiding balance pipes - I reckon the only good inter-bank connection is kissing curves
- and I don't want any kissing going on in that car without me being involved !

I hear H connectors between the manifolds tend to soften the exhaust note more then they improve performance, and kissing curves must be made the hard way if
they don't decrease the net area and hence cause a constriction, but would definitely use one if racing. If you are going for this then you might start the
turn in the end of the manifold - or at least immediately after it.

Yep,
I'm a bit biased because I designed and built the web site (still work in progress) but I can genuinely recommend the guy as I didn't know him before
doing his web site but knew of the company. He has years of experience and works on mostly older cars including recently a nice AC 427 although he'll
happily work on anything. And, like I said, he has the jigs made up for the Mantula manifolds from doing mine. He really is a perfectionist and I think a lot
of people would be pleasantly surprised at his prices, although I hastily cover myself by suggesting you talk to him to discuss individual requirements. He
has a fair bit of experience with Marcos too as it was he who built the system for the demo TS500 and a batch job for Marcos back in the '90s which is
best... err... left alone... (they didn't pay him...).

Just got back from holiday and saw this thread so apologies if I'm late replying but if you want someone nearer to the south east then I can thoroughly
recommend 'Torque technique Ltd' in Salisbury. He'll do it in stainless or mild - your choice. He did my manifolds and then the whole system on
my Mantula so he has jigs already made up and I am really very pleased with them. He's a perfectionist and I think you may find his prices a little more
welcome than I've seen on this post. You'll need to talk to him though: 01722 744747 and his name's Mike Poulton. Their web site shows you where
they are: www.torquetechnique.co.uk.

Mine are only mild steel and I fitted them myself, cost was about £380 inc vat for the pair 3 years ago.

Interesting graphs, looking at the AFR and torque curve highlights when the mixture richens at cruising rpm 2500 - 3000 the torque curve dips. Like you say
maybe in the mapping, after that the AFR is good at between 12.5 - 13.5 which is good for optimum power.

It is quite funny when RORY tried to sell us a mild steel manifold on the basis that we "wouldn't want a stainless steel one because they crack"
??????

Anyway it would be interesting to see how a new pair of manifolds affect these results that we got from a few power runs not too long ago.
These point to a very healthy V8 (apart from the random riching off of the lambda at 2750 rpm every run which is a bit weird but we are putting down do
something in the map itself) but gains are there to be had we will take them.

Joe, this topic has been discussed many times before somewhere, for not that much more you can get a pair of manifolds made at JP Exhausts in
Macclesfield. They have made quite a few manifolds for members of the forum so they have got the jigs for our cars and their customer service is excellent.
I posted a dyno plot of NCM 109H after I changed the manifolds and exhaust, the results were very impressive and the power/torque improvement for the cost was
probably the best engine mod so far.

Thats not far off the price where you can get one made in stainless, but only people I know are JP Exhausts in Macclesfield (who apparently make the manifolds
for RPi in Norfolk) - there must be other pipe wranglers down in the sunny south. Apparently JP actually make and fit them to the car - so they are bespoke
made and fitted !! I think you should be looking for that rather than have some arrive by courier and be faced with fitting them yourself - but it may cost you
a few bob.
